Section 78 - Immigration Act amended
Immigration (Covid-19 Response) Amendment Bill
Amended to allow the Minister to extend visas by up to 6 months, such as when the Government decides it would be unfair to allow visas to expire when it may not be possible for people to make a new application.
This amendment is a good thing. As the Government has recognised that INZ does not have the resources in staff to process applications in a timely manner because of Covid-19, the Government has given the Minister to extend any or all visas by up to 6 months, without an application having to be made.
