Section 57 - Immigration Act amended
Immigration (Covid-19 Response) Amendment Bill
Amended to allow the Minister to grant visas without an application being made.
Before the Covid-19 lockdown there was already a massive backlog of applications. Now after more thasn 6 weeks of INZ offices being closed and Immigraiton officers at home, not working, the backlog is now astronomical. And even when immigration officers go back to work they will be unable to process applications in a timely manner.
Therefore, under this amendment the Minister will be able to grant visas to specified classes of visa holders without applications being made.
