A person who is liable for deportation normally has a limited amount of time to appeal that deportation liability. This will be either 28 or 42 days from the date they became liable for deportation. The time allowed for an appeal will depend on the reason they are liable for deportation. A person who appeals is referred to as an "appellant". Some appellants may have a right to argue against the reasons Immigration New Zealand has made them liable for deportation. Other appellants may only argue their appeal on the basis of having humanitarian circumstances, and may not challenge the reasons Immigration New Zealand made them liable for deportation.
You must be liable for deportation and the time allowed for your appeal must not have expired
You may not appeal if you were holding a limited visa
You understand that in some appeals you do not have the right to argue against the reasons for your deportation liability, and may only argue humanitarian circumstances
